Canning Day Quilt

Hi there

I’ve know I’ve been missing for the past few days.

Life’s been getting the better of me.  Partly it’s because I’ve been busy…

My two good friends and I are cooking for a teacher dinner this afternoon for the teachers at our school.

Today’s menu is good old comfort food… spiral ham, potato casserole, affectionately (or not) called Funeral Potatoes around here, green salad, homemade rolls… and homemade apple cake with caramel sauce and whipped cream.  I’m planning on sharing the recipes for the potatoes, if you can get over the name ; ), and cake.

I’ve been canning and trying to cook up as much of my garden as possible…

I’ve got works in progress to keep me sane and happy.  I love Sandy Klop and her not too frilly florals.  These fabrics are for an apron for a friend.

I’ve also been trying to deep clean, one little drawer at a time.  Isn’t it amazing how fast things can get messy?  I just just cleaned out a drawer, like yesterday, and it’s a mess again.  OK, so maybe it was 6 or 9 months or a year ago… but still.  I don’t know the author of this quote, but it pretty well sums up how it goes:

“Keeping house is like stringing beads with no knot in the end of the thread.”

Mostly I’ve been dealing with stress, that I won’t get into.  But these struggles of the past months have had a good affect on me too.  I wake up every morning with so much gratitude in my heart- gratitude for the things in life that can’t be bought, or taken away by hardship or the whims of fate.

  • I will keep you in my prayers. I know how financial worries can drag a person down! I would love the recipe for the potatoes and the cake too!

  • Funeral potatoes…ha! My family has a pasta salad we make that is called “Denver Funeral Salad”. It’s name after a small town in Iowa near my hometown. Apparently it was a staple for funeral luncheons at one their churches. We have had to change the name a few times when we’ve made it for luncheons when the dishes were labeled. The alternate name is “Denver Pasta Medley”. :)

  • Oh, I’m hungry. That all sounds delicious! I love Apple Cake with carmel sauce. Yumm! Loving the fabric combo you picked out for the apron too. It will be so cute!

Hope all the stress dies down soon.

Hi, Calli! You don’t know me, but I googled fresh peach pie and yours is the one I made! It was delicious so I just wanted to say thank you. Most recipes for fresh peach pie mean that the peaches were fresh before they baked them and that wasn’t what I was looking for. Also, yout quilts are beautiful. We are a make it do family, too!
