This instead…

Yesterday was SO much busier than I expected.  The project I am working on didn’t get done so, instead I’ll share a couple of our favorite books right now.

The first is a book my husband is reading to the kids.  I’ve found myself leaving the dinner dishes undone so I can sit down to really listen.  The message in this book is profound and well worth reading whether you are a child or an adult.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon explores the source of true happiness with such wisdom.  It is truly a pearl of a book.

I’m also reading Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.  This book is amazing and inspiring.  I am cursing the fact that I actually have a lot to do lately.  As it is, I must carve out a few minutes here and there to read.  But regardless, I love every moment I can find to read Unbroken.

Both books explore the ideas I’ve thought a lot about over the last few years and both are speaking to me words I need to hear.  The power of a good book never ceases to amaze.

AMEN! I enjoy your blog very much and have also written down both titles for future enjoyment. Thanks so much.

  • I agree, the power of a good book…I just finished The Invisible Wall and The Dream in that order by the same author: Harry Bernstein. Try them when you are done with Unbroken. I put Unbroken on hold at the Library, I’m in line at number 118! I may have to try to buy it! Thanks for the referral.

  • Mary:

I received “Unbroken” for Christmas and read it within 24 hours. Hillenbrand is a very talented author–you should check out “Seabiscuit”.

  • Tracy:

I saw Hillenbrand and one of her subjects from “Unbroken” interviewed and was very inspired both by this book and by her own story (which moved one of her subjects so much he gave her one of his military decorations because he felt she had risen above her own difficulties and had earned it).

  • Thanks for sharing. I’ve been thinking about getting Unbroken on my kindle. It sounds like an amazing story.

  • Michele:

I absolutely love your whole website- you have a calm air about your writings that inspire me. I am also feeling like I want to clear my calendar of all activities so we can do the important stuff!
Thank you for the book recommendations.

  • Shelly:

I am reading Unbroken now – almost done – Love it – I feel I have learned more about what WWII was really like and about then any history class I ever had!

  • Cath:

I loved Where the Mountain Meets the Moon! Grace Lin’s other books are excellent as well. Yay for great books!

  • I just finished reading Where the Mountain Meets the Moon because of your recommendation and I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to read it out loud to my kids. Thanks for posting this.
