Welcome October

I’m a little late to the party when the month is already 6 days old.  But that’s how things are rolling around here.  I’ve been feeling a little out of it lately.

Since it’s been so warm, it’s hardly felt like October anyway.  But finally it’s rainy and slightly chilly.  Just the thing to put me in the mood for breaking out our Halloween decorations, making soup, and maybe even making caramel apples this weekend.

The trees on the mountain outside my window look like just a patchwork quilt of orange, yellow, green and brown.

Speaking of quilts, I have been sewing up a storm over the past few weeks.

I just finished piecing my reading quilt and I can wait to get it quilted.  I’m working on the embroidery for the back which will totally make the quilt.  It will be a way to document a child’s favorite books and their age.  I only wish I would have kept a record of my children’s favorites since they were babies.

This past week, I also made another Lickety Split Bag from Made by Rae, as a gift for a friend.  I loved the lining fabric, a Baltimore Album fabric by Mary Koval from Windham, so much, I need to find a Halloween project to make from the scraps.  The main body fabric is also wonderful and reminded me of my friend the moment I saw it.  It’s from David Textiles with no other dadgum name on the selvage.

Next on the list is making Halloween costumes if I could only find Simplicity patterns on sale.  I know it’s sheer stubbornness, but I can’t bring myself to buy a Simplicity pattern (or Butterick or McCalls) unless it’s $1.99 or less.  If anyone hears of a sale somewhere, please be sure to let me know.

I’ve also got a new quilt in the works and making another Night Owl Bag.  If it’s true you can stitch away your troubles… I’m in for a happy October.

Love the bag! I had never heard of the Baltimore Album fabrics, they are very pretty! Just wanted to let you know that Simplicity patterns are 99 cents at Joann’s this weekend (10-8 to 10-11). Thanks for a great blog!
