The Night Owl Bag Pattern Set

I’m so excited to share photos of my new pattern:

The Night Owl Bag Pattern Set

This bag pays homage to some of my favorite elementary school memories.

To Kristen and Chelle Hammer:

If you are out there reading, this bag is dedicated you…

To our all-night adventures, to nail polish and popcorn, notebook plans with diagrams, Old Maid and scary stories, tired parents and whole wheat pancakes.

This slumber party bag is for the next generation of Night Owls.

It’s nice and roomy.

Perfect for holding a pillow, blanket, pajamas and your favorite doll…

This pattern comes with a delightful owl pocket…

to keep your nail polish and toothbrush if you remember to brush.

His tummy is a clever smaller pocket too.

I’m also including an easy pattern for making a matching pillowcase.

Anybody ready for a Slumber Party?

This little Night Owl is ready for the party!

This pattern can be made in several hours… it’s easy and fun to make and is suitable for a seamstress with only a little experience. The .pdf pattern is 11 pages of step-by-step instructions and includes helpful diagrams and tips. Click here to check out a preview of the pattern.

  • My new latest craze is owl’s and you bag looks like every would-be-overnighter’s dream!

  • Jodi:

My only sewing experience has been with a few step-by-step easy tutorials….so with that in mind…do you think I’d be able to figure out your pattern? I LOVE this!!

    • Calli:

Hi Jodi, This pattern is really very easy. The most challenging part is the owl pocket, as sewing around the ears, eyes and nose takes a little finesse. You can easily stitch around the nose and eyes by hand. Or else take it slow. I would say this bag is suitable for a beginner with just a little sewing experience. I’m so glad you like it! If you decide to buy and have any questions… just drop me a line. cheers, Calli

  • Chelle:

Calli! You have no idea how happy this post made me. It stirred up so many happy memories. Over the weekend we took our kids on a road trip and I spent quite a bit of the drive time telling them stories and adventures from my childhood with “our best friends, the Isons” I told them about picking all of my mom’s peas and making a witches brew, using the big parachute to make a giant fort on our swing in the back yard, swimming all day, every summer day, the secret code languages, and when you and Kristen tricked Cami and I into thinking that alligators were chasing us after a bike race. So many happy and wonderful memories. I LOVE the bag– quite adorable. Let me know if you decide to actually make them and sell them. My sewing skills are limited, but would love to have this darling bag for my girls.
Thanks for the happy reminders. I’ll let Kristen know she should come and take a look. : )

  • Tina:

I posted earlier I couldn’t find this pattern on your site…sorry, as you can see I ran smack-dab into it! Thanks!

  • My daughter (age 9) & I bought this pattern and sewed it up together as a gift for a friend of hers. The results are posted here:

      Hi Susan,

I just purchased this pattern and saw the picture of your completed project, it looks GREAT!

I am going to be scouting around thrift stores to find some perfect fabric and i cannot wait to get it started!

      GREAT JOB!!

  • This is such a great idea – I wish I had it when my 6 children were sleeping over – now I will remember this for Grandchildren

  • Conni:

    Hello,
I would love a teen/adult version of this. Any suggestions. I have no creative vision. Would love pictures of adapted version. Thanks.

  • Hello Calli! I hope this email finds you well!

I was wondering if you sold your Night Owl bags online somewhere or do you only sell the pattern? I’m a baker, not so much a seamstress…so I was hoping to purchase one that you’be already made!!!

Your recipe for the mint chocolate brownies with the mint and choc ganache layers….unbelievable! I don’t event want to share with my husband and children ;).

Thankf for posting all your beautiful things and thoughts….much enjoyed!

Hi Genna, I don’t sell finished bags unfortunately! I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my mint brownie recipe. cheers, Calli

  • What a practical and pretty bag! Thanks for sharing it.

  • Yvonne:

I love these bags! they would be perfect for our annual sleepover. (for both moms and girls) Approx how much are materials per bag?

I look forward to making 10 of these over the next year!!!

    • Calli:

Hi Yvonne, You need just over 3 yards of fabric per bag which has a wide range in price, depending on what you purchase. The best deals on fabric tend to be a JoAnn’s with a coupon. Fabric can range from approx. $3.99 a yard on up to $12.99 or so for quilt weight cotton.
