Summer Vacation Must-Do List

Summer vacation is just around the corner.  If I am totally honest with myself, I feel an equal amount of excitement and trepidation at the idea of having my kids at home full time.

Yes.  I love spending lazy summer days with my kids…  but I also dread the lack of formal routine.  I know my kids, especially my girls, need some form of summer school, to help them catch up in math.  For my sanity, I will need new summer job charts and a plan for maintaining a clean home.  And I will need time for the kids to occupy themselves and for me to work (hopefully somewhat uninterrupted) each day.

Our family doesn’t have the extra income to send our kids off to expensive day camps, so planning for a great summer comes down to me.  I need to use ingenuity and resourcefulness if I want to make this summer worthwhile.

This week and next, before the kids are done with school… it is my goal to come up with a plan.  A good workable plan.

It starts today with the creation of our “Must-Do Summer List” which will happen when the kids get home from school this afternoon.

I saw the idea of making the list together and hanging up where it can remind and inspire on The Giver’s Log.  When it’s done, I’ll be sure to share.

Thank you for sharing. I’m a mom to a nearly 7 year old daughter and I’m looking forward to summer but dreading the weeks when I don’t have anything planned.

On our must-do list: go camping, even if it is in the back yard; make giant soap bubbles; do the Diet Coke and Mentos geyser experiment; tend our plot in the Community Garden; visit a new playground or two…

  • that pic of your daughter on the swing is too sweet. and I have been thinking the same thing–just how much routine do we need? Last year I think I got the hang of it by about August!

  • I’ve been contemplating a summer schedule over the past few weeks now, I need to come up with lots of brilliant ideas to keep me sane!! I’ve got 3 kiddos 7,5, and 2 who are VERY active and get bored easily. Can’t wait to see what you come up with (:

  • Just cam across your cute site! I can’t wait to explore more! I love your design, it’s so friendly!

We are in Winter over here in Oz so lap up the sun….it’s freezing here.

I saw last year a terrific idea from the blog “living with punks” – Susan is wonderfully creative and she came up with a Bored Board for her twin boys and daughter. It was a wonderful list of things the kids could do when they were “bored” and it looked all very pretty on a canvas.

    Enjoy the holidays.
