Bye Baby Bunting

I’m in the process of planning a little birthday party for my girls.  It’s going to be a 1930’s American Girl party.

My sewing machine is going to get workout this time.

The first project is all made from scraps.  This sweet little pile came from my mother’s obscene stash.  They soon will become a party flag bunting.

It’s so cheerful and springy I’m sure it will stay up through Easter this year.

The larger piece of purple fabric is the subject of debate for me.  It’s over two yards… (thanks Mom) and I’m trying to decide if it wants to be a tablecloth or a dress.  I would love to make my girls dresses that look something like this:

Oh Kit, you are too cute for words!   And the dress!  The scallops!  Is there a pattern out there?  Do I dare try my hand at designing a dress?

  • Oh! I hope you find a pattern and that you share! I love this dress. And your fabrics are perfect for the theme.

  • i vote dress. I am loving that dress. i am also loving the aqua/turquoise fabric with the purple flowers
    what a fun party idea

  • Those fabrics are absolutely scrumptious (and so soothing to these winter-tired eyes)! I don’t know if there’s a pattern for that dress, but I’m sure you could do it! Find a pattern for a simple wrap-around dress and modify it.

Still drooling over those gorgeous colors! I have serious fabric envy!

  • Alexa:

Definitely a wrap dress. Those AG dolls are impossible to dress if you need to get something over their gigantic heads and shove their unbendable arms into it.

  • i am 30 years old (and with a 2 yr old daughter) and i have even considered ordering kit and all her accessories! i’m not a “doll person”, but it is all so precious (and that time period is dear to my heart).
also, i love those fabrics and my local quilt store carries that line–i recogonize several and even have the yellow print of the girl–i’m doing mary margaret a “barnyard quilt” with barnyard animals hand embroidered on muslin and the squares out of all those vintage-looking fabrics.
anyway, can’t wait to see this party!

  • I really love those dolls. I still really want one. If I ever have a kid I hope they love them too so I can totally spoli them rotten with a doll and little home-made outfits=)

  • Sabrina:

    I LOVE the yellow print!

I remember having a cute craft book with the Felicity character when I was younger. It had projects like sealing wax and sachets. It was super cute :)

  • Love all the vintage looking fabrics! Happy party planning!

  • You must be the most awesome mom! What a great party you will have.

  • Elisabeth:

Those fabrics are absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had something like that in my stash.
That dress is just super cute and I would love to see something like that on my little girl so if you do go with the dress and you find a pattern I hope you will share it with us.
    Have a great party!

  • Biz:

I LOVE 30’s fabric!!! I can’t wait to see what you create Calli! You are amazing and those girls are pretty lucky to have such a fun party!!!

  • Leslie M.P.:

When the movie came out, my daughter was dying for a “Kit dress” like the one you show above. I searched and searched and couldn’t find a pattern like it anywhere. In the end, I found an older pattern, A-line style with Peter Pan collar and had to forgo the scallops. She was very happy with it. If you find one closer, please let us know!

  • Jan:

My daughter, now grown, has her Samantha AG doll. I enjoyed making them matching outfits.

Those fabrics are wonderful, love it!

  • Kristie:

I love those fabrics! So cute. But knowing myself, I would be to scared to use them for anything. :)
I love the idea of the dress, you should totally do it! And if you do, please share. That would make the sweetest little easter dress.

  • This is going to be so cute Calli! Kit is my favorite- books, doll, accessories. Everything. Can I come to the birthday party? ;)
